South County Vendors Take Over State House

Instead of lawmakers and lobbyists, the halls of the
Rhode Island State House
were taken over by
South County
vendors on Tuesday. All of the vendors were there to promote their businesses as part of the South County Day celebration. The
Rhode Island
clam chowder from Yawgoo Bakes and Barbeques was especially popular. So were the Johnny Cakes from
Kenyon's Grist Mill
. If you were looking for steamers, clams and oysters, Matunuck Oyster Farm had plenty to go around. But it wasn't just about the
food
. There was history to be learned. The
Nathanael Greene Homestead Museum
showed a glimpse of the Revolutionary War. And the
Kingston Train Station
plays a crucial role in
South County
tourism, bringing in 160,000 people last year. "We are very pleased with the results we've gotten in these challenging economic times," said
Myrna George
of the
South County Tourism Council
.
