Join the Ocean House at the monthly Artisan in Residence weekend event to meet with nationally-recognized artists and artisans for hands-on art instruction, special lectures and reception. This month, meet Joe Higgins who has been practicing the art of Gyotaku for over a decade. Friday, April 23, 5 pm – 6 pm : Meet Gyotaku Artist, Joe Higgins. Gyotaku is a unique, ancient eastern art form of creating a lifelike impression of a just-caught fish using ink and paper, making beautiful pieces of art. Saturday, April 24, 9 am – 11 am: Fish Print Workshop. Learn the art of Gyotaku with Joe Higgins as he teaches guests “the old fashioned way” of using fish and inks to make beautiful sea life artwork. Guests will be able to learn a new skill as well as create a gift to take home. Sunday, April 25, 9 am – 10:30 am : Meet and Greet: Meet artisan Joe Higgins for one-on-one interaction and view, discuss and purchase from his collection of fish prints. Refreshments will be available. Sunday,April 25, 2 pm – 4 pm: Up Close & Personal: Join artist Joe Higgins for an Up, Close & Personal Lecture about his personal artistic journey into the art of Gyotaku (creating lifelike prints of fish on paper). Light refreshments of coffee, tea, and water plus cookies and cheese will be served.
