Gardens By The Sea Tour

  • GARDENS BY THE SEA TOUR 2024 Summer is coming and the gardens are beautiful! On Saturday, June 22, 2024, the Cross’ Mills Public Library will host its biennial garden tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rain or shine, the gardens await you. Behold colorful flowers as well as native plants. Visit a sustainable garden of trees, herbs, bulbs and perennials watered only by rain. Stroll through an array of magnificent Red Maples, American Chestnut and Harry Lauder’s walking stick near Green Hill Pond. Old horse farms with amazing stone walls have been transformed into perennial beds and rare trees, hummingbirds, bees and dragonflies add to the enchantment. Not far away, Star Magnolia and fig trees create a relaxing atmosphere and a way-station for hundreds of monarch butterflies. Brightly-colored chicken coops and happy chickens welcome guests into a wonderland of flowers, fantastic garden art and a koi pond. You’ll see conscientious landscaping along the banks of Ninigret Pond where beautiful plantings have been incorporated into the natural habitat to encourage birds and butterflies. Explore how composting practices maintain rich living soil for flowers and food alike. Join us for a lovely day of strolling sweet coastal cottages and historic gardens in this tour of Gardens by the Sea. Tickets are $25, ($30 day of tour). The generosity of local gardeners and residents make this tour possible. All proceeds benefit the Cross’ Mills Public Library. For tickets visit the library website www.crossmills.org or call the library at 401-364-6211
