What began as a small fishermen’s tavern in 1947 is a popular hangout for University of Rhode Island students and South County residents alike. It’s a quirky spot with seating on three floors: the Bean Town section pays tribute to the Patriots, Celtics, Bruins and Red Sox; the Pizza Bar overlooks the kitchen; and the original tavern has dollar bills with patrons’ messages stapled to the ceiling. There’s also a Celtic pub and an enclosed patio with a beech tree growing inside. As for the food, the menu is varied, but the Mews is best known for its burgers.
