Gilbert Stuart Museum

Every Dollar Tour

Begin your day with a visit to the Gilbert Stuart Birthplace Museum. Built in 1751, the museum offers a glimpse of where the great artist was born and began his life before his famous portrait of George Washington graced every American dollar. While visiting this Southern Rhode Island museum you will also see America’s first snuff (tobacco) mill. Then, tour Smith’s Castle, the original trading post established by Roger Williams, founder of Rhode Island, and Richard Smith. Enjoy lunch at Dan's Carriage Inn & Saloon - a 200 year old structure that was once a busy stage coach stop along Post Road.
