17th Annual Celebrate South County Day
South County, Rhode Island�s million dollar tourism industry shifts into high gear with our 17th Annual "Celebrate South County Day...and the rest of the state" at the Rhode Island State House on Tuesday, May 12, 2009. �The event is the official kick-off of National Tourism Week - in true South County Style!� We welcome the press to join us in the festivities.
Celebrate South County Day is a collaborative annual event promoting the power of travel by recognizing the benefits created by tourism as it enhances the economy, security�and perception of the state.� South County Tourism Council has invited exhibitors who will offer a �Taste of South County� while increasing awareness of the travel and tourism industry's economic, social, and cultural contributions to the region.� Food samples include: Indian pudding from Aunt Carrie�s, pastries and sweets from B&B Referrals of South Coast RI, Thomas Jefferson sweet-potato muffins and cinnamon rolls from Babcock Smith House Museum, smoothies from Crazy Burger, samples from Coventry�s Cracker Barrel, frozen lemonade from Del�s of South County, �soupy� from Fortuna�s Sausage Company, lobster bisque from George�s of Galilee, Johnny cakes from Kenyon Cornmeal Company, oysters from Matunuck Oyster Farm, gelato from Nana�s Ice-cream and Gelato Caf�, wine from Newport Vineyards,�strawberry rhubarb tart from Shelter Harbor Inn, coffee from North Kingstown�s Updike�s Newtowne Coffee Roasting Company, trail mix from US Fish & Wildlife Kettle Pond Visitors Center, and chowder from Yawgoo Bakes & Barbeques.�
Other exhibitors include Interstate Navigation/Block Island Ferry, Friends of the Kingston Station, General Nathanael Greene Homestead, RI Resource Conservation & Development Area Council, Seabee Museum, South County Chambers, Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation/Tourism Division, along with other tourism regions.
