Max and Pati deWardener, owners and general managers of Yawgoo Valley Ski and Recreation Area received the South County Tourism Councils Tourism Works for Rhode Island Award during the Governors Tourism Unity Luncheon held at the Westin Hotel in Providence on May 13.
Governor Carcieri and Mark Brodeur, RIEDC Tourism Division Director, joined South County Tourism Council president, Myrna George, in presenting the award. The deWardeners were recognized for their tireless pursuit of growing Yawgoo Valley Ski and Recreation Area as an attraction for visitors from near and far. They employ 210 people and provide endless hours of learning fun with a ski area, snow tube park and water park. In addition, they give back to the larger community beyond Exeter, as seen by their hosting of the RI Special Olympics.
