I may be the first person to say this, but I suspect I won't be the last: East Greenwich has become the restaurant capital of South County. By way of example, I offer EG's first-ever Restaurant Week.

The "week" – 10 days actually – kicks off next Thursday, Sept. 13, at "Savor East Greenwich," an event at the East Greenwich Yacht Club, from 6 to 9 p.m., with tastings from several of the 21 restaurants participating.

The EG Restaurant Week is a collaboration between the EG Chamber of Commerce and the monthly magazine SO Rhode Island.

"We want to spotlight EG as a destination, particularly for restaurants and we want to promote our restaurant members,” said Chamber head Steve Lombardi. "Additionally, we want to extend the summer momentum many of our restaurants enjoyed."

Many of the restaurants will feature fixed-price, three-course meals for both lunch and dinner, with an appetizer-soup-salad course, a main course, and a dessert.

”We are very excited about our first Restaurant Week and we hope to make it an annual event," said Lombardi.

If you are interested in attending "Savor East Greenwich," contact the EG Chamber or SO Rhode Island.
